Holiday Wreath!!

I finally found an afternoon to create my own wreath.

I am reminded of the story about the cobbler's children who went barefoot, their father too busy creating shoes for other children.

I willingly spend my time creating for others, and our own front porch wall was empty, lacking a festive wreath ... until this weekend when I found some time to create a new one using items I have had tucked away for a couple of years.

I am very pleased with the way it turned out although I do wish I had a white light cord instead of the green one I upcycled from my stash. It will not be seen from the road.

I took my photos this morning as I left the house and must say I am inspired by the third ... it may be the start of an abstract ... but for now, it is just my front porch wreath, finally!

December .....

Hello everyone .... I have been on the run since Thanksgiving .... painting and crafting and enjoying the spirit of the Holidays. Last week I spent every evening with a room full of crafters for ornament classes. We laughed and created some very cute ornaments.

My demonstrations may end up in my esty shop.

Hopefully posting on the blog and reading others will work it's way back into my routine.

Good News Bad News!

Well, I traveled safely to and from the cookie and craft show ... The good news, I had fun and spent quality time with my daughter! We baked pies and cookies and ate several of the broken ones! Bad news ... reality bites... I sold very little so it was a lot of work and stress for "nothing". I should have known better - I don't do well at craft fairs - may return next year but will do demonstrations or something ...

But, they don't call me Pollyanna for nothing ... upon my return, I unloaded all the Christmas and Holiday stuff from my van and set it up in the brick and mortar. Looks very nice and I still have more to create.

At the craft show - things sold in other booths, like 50 cents wooden ornaments and 5 for $10 necklaces. My stuff is one of a kind and higher priced so lots of looks and uhs and ahhhs but very little cash flowing.

Another plus, I took some photos during the time away that may turn in to a painting or two. I made a few new friends at the show that I hope to keep in touch with. And ... time with my daughter ... priceless!

Dark values last !

Artists work with their darks at different times of the painting process ... I find that 95% of the time with my watercolors I hold off until the finishing steps for place the darkest darks and make the lighter values POP!

I am preparing an assortment of items for an upcoming holiday bazaar in Bloomington IN and as I worked on these little snowpeople, I had to restrain from putting in the dark coal and brown twigs... I knew that would make it look so much better ... but in watercolor - it can/will smear!

Everything takes time in art and in life.... patience is often required to be "successful". Working (and playing) at your art every day brings about the knowledge to know when it is the time to control or let loose.
