Encaustic painting ... never have done it .... until today!
I have a friend who's mother, Mary, was a mentor and friend for most of my adult life. When Mary recently past away, the void was felt through out our community and an exhibit was put up of her work. Care was not taken and one of my favorite pieces was damaged. The encasutic (wax) painting had many surface scratches and three DEEP gouges.
I asked on Esty for some insight and almost immediately had the information I needed from Glenda. I thought I knew what to do but it was reassuring to talk with someone who had a working knowledge of what I was going to attempt.
It took a bit of patience and gentle attention but I think the family will be pleased with the work I was able to do.
And I think I could learn to like working with this medium ... maybe it was Mary looking over my shoulder that made the restoration go easily.

You did an awesome job! It's just a gorgeous piece. I am so glad we "met" on Etsy and I hope you will continue to check in on our thread.

A beautiful encaustic painting..I'm so glad you were able to restore it.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered about encaustic---the closest I have came is using liberal melted beeswax in collage work, which really is another art form than the mediums. I love the warmth of it.
